BMW SERIES 640i GRANCOUPE
BMW naming nomenclature would stipulate the "4" in 640i to indicate a naturally aspirated V-8 engine, but in today's tipsy turvy world, it means this touring car gets the N55 engine, the single-turbo inline-6 found in the 135i, 335i and 535i. With direct injection and BMW's VANOS Valvetronic variable valve-lift and timing system, this 3.0-liter engine produces 315 bhp and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. Combined with BMW's new 8-speed automatic gearbox, the engine is always in its ideal powerband. As befits a car with a name like "Gran Coupe," the 640i needs to be flexible for all occasions, soft for highway cruising and stiff enough for satisfactory performance on more recreational drives. To do that, the 640i uses BMW's Driving Dynamics Control to adjust vehicle parameters to best suit the conditions. A rocker switch near the gearshift plate allows you to choose among five modes, ranging from Eco Pro, two Comfort settings and two Sport settings.
